30.08.2013 / 10.09.2013 Al-mat-ay

Staying at the Backpackers hostel, a few of our friends and family came out with some fresh supplies and to enjoy some good times in the old capital of Kazakhstan.

During our stay we met a few cyclists doing various continental rides, a couple doing a tandem ride around the world, loads of people taking part in the Mongolia Charity Rally, and a lot of nice people in general (sorry about names, it has been a rather long time!).

Importantly, we set about preparing what equipment to send home and how minimalist to be. We sent home some of the larger electronics and much of the ineffective winter clothing, and gave away what little we had left which we deemed unnecessary, reducing our equipment to the point where the carts became solely for food, water, our tent and bedding, reducing weight both on them and on our backs.

Preparing to leave for walking again with the mountains in sight, it wasn’t the best feeling in the world.
