The day DJ was quietly disposed of

The previous night we had gone through our rucksacks and bagged up various spare clothes, as well as a pair of spare (mostly worn) boots each. It rained all morning, but luckily there was a sheltered bus stop back on the road where we stopped to move everything onto the one cart and the rest onto our backs.
Once we were done, we saddled up to make distance. We made it less than 5km down the road and stopped, our backs clearly not able to carry the extra weight. One saving grace was that where we’d stopped there was a dry tunnel under the road, so we got inside and went through all our things again, going feral, even discussing throwing away the £300 winter jackets.
